I live immediately above Bottomley Clough in Walsden. I noticed the streams were not running through rough, rushy vegetation which slows them down. They were running through fields with short grass, grazed by sheep – not their normal route
This flood was different from previous years – there was a ferocity to the water flow. It didn't feel like a 'natural event' It felt like the water had been mismanaged. We have lived beside the canal near Callis for 24 years – the flooding of the canal is a new event
I'm concerned that Ramsden Clough Reservoir has been drained. Walsden has lost many mills over the years and the dams that went with them, and the water wheels. Can we not restore these dams and install hydro-electric?
